Vraag 49: Watter nut bring vir ons die hemelvaart van Christus? Antwoord: Eerstens dat Hy in die hemel voor die aangesig van sy Vader ons Voorspraak is¹. Tweedens dat ons ons vlees in die hemel as ‘n betroubare waarborg het dat Hy, as ons Hoof, ons, sy lede, ook daarheen sal neem². Derdens dat Hy sy Gees as ‘n waarborg aan ons stuur, deur wie se krag ons soek wat daar bo is, waar Christus aan die regterhand van God sit, en nie wat op die aarde is nie³.

Vraag 50: Waarom word daar bygevoeg: “Sit aan die regterhand van God”? Antwoord: Omdat Christus daar opgegaan het om Homself as Hoof van sy Christelike kerk te openbaar¹, deur wie die Vader alles regeer².

Question 49: What benefit do we receive from Christ’s ascension into heaven? Answer: First, that He is our Advocate in heaven before the face of His Father.¹ Second, that we have our flesh in heaven as a sure pledge that He, as our Head, will also take us, His members, up to Himself.² Third, that He sends us His Spirit as a counter-pledge, by whose power we seek the things that are above, where Christ sits at the right hand of God, and not the things that are on earth.³

Question 50: Why is it added, “He sits at the right hand of God”? Answer: Because Christ ascended into heaven to manifest Himself there as the Head of His Christian church,¹ through whom the Father governs all things.²
