Sondag 26
Skrifverwysings: 1: Matteus 28:19 2: Matteus 3:11; Markus 16:16 3: 1 Petrus 3:21

Lord’s Day 26
Question 68: How many sacraments has Christ instituted in the New Testament? Answer: Two: holy baptism and the holy supper.
Question 69: How does holy baptism signify and seal to you that the one sacrifice of Christ on the cross benefits you? Answer: In this way: Christ instituted the outward washing with water¹ and with it promised that I am as certainly washed with His blood and Spirit from the uncleanness of my soul, that is, from all my sins,² as I am washed outwardly with water, which is used to remove the dirt from the body.³
Scripture References: 1: Matthew 28:19 2: Matthew 3:11; Mark 16:16 3: 1 Peter 3:21
Question 70: What does it mean to be washed with the blood and Spirit of Christ? Answer: It means to receive from God the forgiveness of sins through grace, for the sake of Christ’s blood,¹ which He shed for us in His sacrifice on the cross;² and also to be renewed by the Holy Spirit and sanctified as members of Christ,³ so that we may more and more die to sin and live in a godly and blameless way.⁴
Scripture References: 1: Hebrews 12:24; 1 Peter 1:2 2: 1 John 1:7 3: 1 Corinthians 6:11 4: Romans 6:4
Question 71: Where has Christ promised that He will wash us with His blood and Spirit as surely as we are washed with the water of baptism? Answer: In the institution of baptism, where He says: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”;¹ and: “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”² This promise is repeated where Scripture calls baptism “the washing of regeneration” and “the washing away of sins.”³
