Vraag 110: Wat verbied God in die agtste gebod? Antwoord: God verbied nie net diefstal en roof wat die owerheid straf nie¹, maar Hy beskou ook as diefstal alle listige truuks en bedrog waardeur ons ons naaste se goed onregverdig in die hande kry², asook alle gierigheid³ en misbruik en verkwisting van sy gawes⁴.

Question 110: What does God forbid in the eighth commandment? Answer: God forbids not only such theft and robbery as are punished by the magistrate,¹ but He also regards as theft all wicked tricks and devices by which we seek to get our neighbour’s goods,² whether by force or under the appearance of right, as also all covetousness³ and the misuse and waste of His gifts.⁴

Question 111: But what does God require of you in this commandment? Answer: That I further my neighbour’s good where I can and may,¹ deal with him as I would have others deal with me,² and work faithfully so that I may be able to help the needy.³
